Most of our crochet clothing is designed by our talking (and gesturing and scribbling and using each other as mannequins) about ideas together. A fresh beautiful new design reached, I then leave all the hard technical work of the pattern-making to my much more able mom. Yes, I am a brat kid!
There have been a couple exceptions. Trying to give some deserving yarns fulfillment and save money, we have been working a lot from our yarn “stash.” Staring at a closet full of random skeins of yarn we need to somehow harmonize has been the necessity that inspires.
Mom’s fabulous blend of modern and retro that is the pinwheel ruffled crochet sweater vest was completely her idea. It popped into her head after she set a navy yarn next to a chartreuse one.
My recent solo design is this romantic crochet cardigan:
But there was only enough for the flounces. Further digging found rich chocolate browns that blended. Since they were medium-weight, that contrast guided the rest of the design.
